HISTORY

Highlights:

The Class of 1948 was the first group of students to be inducted into the Maryknoll College Alumnae Association

  • Ms. Purification Borja Lim (Class 1930) and Miss Lucia Hilario (Class 1930) were the 1st MCAA President and Vice-President respectively.  Since then, the alumnae association has been active participating and supporting school activities, events and milestones.
  • In March 1979, the Alumnae Association registered with the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) as the Maryknoll College Alumnae Association, Inc. or MCAA, a non-stock, non-profit corporation.
  • The founding members or incorporators were:
    • Josefina Tan, Class 1965, who has served the MMCAA Board in several capacities and sits as a member of the current Miriam College Board of Trustees now as its Vice-Chairperson

  • Dra. Paz Adriano, the first Filipina lay-President of Maryknoll College (1976-1978) is a fellow alumna (HS ’34, ETC 1936). She also served as the President of the MCAA in 1958.
  • In 1986, when Dra. Lourdes Quisumbing left her position as President of Maryknoll College to serve as Secretary of Education and Culture, she was replaced by another alumnae, Dra. Loreta Navarro Castro, Class 1968. Who served as Maryknoll College President from 1986-1997.
  • Dra. Patricia B. Licuanan, (High School Class of 1958) who is also an alumna serves as President of Miriam College from 1997 to the present.
  • Through the years, the MCAA, under the able stewardship of several dynamic Board Presidents and Chairpersons, continued to work toward the objectives of maintaining and enhancing the commitment and spirit of unity among members as well as support Maryknoll/Miriam College. The MCAA sponsors the Annual Alumni Homecoming, which also serves as the annual meeting and general assembly of the Association, as well as other activities and events.
  • In 2003, after careful assessment and to address its members’ growing and evolving needs, the MCAA Board and its advisory council amended the Association’s Articles of Incorporation to change the name Maryknoll College Alumnae Association to Maryknoll/Miriam College Alumni Association, Inc.
