VIVACE 80!

Vivace , an Italian word that means “to give life” or “to have life”, was the theme of the 2006 grand alumni homecoming of Miriam College, which also coincided with the college’s celebration of its 80th year. To realize this theme, the Miriam College campus was transformed into a colorful festive venue for the gathering of alumni, friends and families for the school’s homecoming held last September 9, 2006.

Many events were lined up for the day. Alumni and their families had several activities to choose from: there were food and souvenir booths, mini golf, koi fishing, a bowling and shooting gallery, and two inflatable rides – the Castle Jump (for kids ages 3 to 15 years), and the 23-ft. tall Giant Slide  for the whole family to enjoy. Alumnae mothers were able to relax and be with the company of schoolmates as they endorsed their children to the care of Miriam’s “Kiddie Daycare” sponsored by the Child Study Center.

Homecoming activities started at 2:00 p.m. with the Registration and MMCAA Election (for the 2007 MMCAA Board of Trustees), a merienda hosted by the MMCAA in honor of the new 3A awardees at the Our Lady’s Court, and an anticipated mass at 3:30 p.m. at the College Chapel which was sponsored by the Grade School Silver Jubilee Class of 1981. The much-awaited Jubilarian Homecoming “Disco Fever” program at the newly renovated Marian Auditorium began at 5:30 p.m. with Pat Castillo (HS ‘71) leading the National Anthem followed by a Benguet tribe-inspired invocation number by COLL ‘56 headed by Mimi Katigbak-De Jesus. MC President Dr. Patricia Licuanan gave her welcome address to the alumnae. Sr. Marissa Lichauco, M.M. presented

an AVP in appreciation and memory of Sr. Miriam Thomas Thornton, M.M. The awarding of the Amazing Alumni Achievers (Triple A) for the year was done after the “business” part of the program wherein MMCAA President Elinor Manuel delivered the MMCAA Annual Report and presented the different class reps who gave the generous class donations of COLL ‘56, HS ‘71, COLL ‘66, HS ‘66 & HS ‘81 to the school and the Maryknoll Sisters. It was another spectacular show with the surprise guest appearance of Mr. Hajji Alejandro (courtesy of Pearl Jubilee Class HS ‘76) belting out familiar OPM hits to the delight of the female audience. An upbeat Elvis Presly Medley dance number by HS ‘56 together with 3 male Elvis-look-a like delighted the audience as well. COLL ‘66 and COLL ‘76 will not be upstaged with their wonderful disco medley numbers. A Mambo No.5 song and dance number choreographed by Pinky Mendoza-Puno and performed by HS ‘66 was a rousing hit! Of course, how could anyone forget the sexy Latin number from HS ‘71?! An Omnibus Dance number by representatives of different jubilee classes segued to the turnover dance by HS ‘81 and HS ‘82 reps. To cap the night in their crowning glory was an 80’s disco dance medley number by the homecoming host class  HS ‘81. The program was followed by a dance party inside the Marian Auditorium which unfortunately was cut short due to the heavy rainfall that had people heading home in fear of being caught in Metro Manila flashfloods! Nonetheless, alumnae and guests had such a fun and wonderful experience that day to keep them in high spirits throughout the rainy evening!
