BINGO BONGGA 2!
By:
MCHS Class ‘85 Working
Committee
Bingo Bongga 2! finally
pushed through last Sunday, January 14th,
2007. This second bingo fundraiser held
for the MC Endowment Fund Campaign was
co-sponsored by the Chi Rho Champions
and High School Batch 1985.
It started as one of
several ideas proposed during our 20th
anniversary reunion and subsequent
get-togethers, to gear up for our silver
jubilee in 2010. None of us being
professional “fund-raisers,” we sought
assistance from the Alumni Office and in
turn, the External Affairs of MC. And
much to our relief, we received nothing
but support and encouragement embarking
on our first project, a big
institution-wide event at that. And
support they did, from the blueprints to
the final logistics involved. It helped
that we were ably steered through the
process by such experienced and
dedicated people headed by Ms. Babot
Aspiras-Oreta, Ms. Pinky Medina, and Ms.
Joy Formoso. No less than President
Licuanan took time off her busy
schedules to boost our morale on several
occasions. Daunting and time-consuming
tasks like soliciting from sponsors,
coordinating with concessionaires, and
selling tickets (the most crucial of
all), became attainable and even
enjoyable at times because of them and
the various people we encountered. We
met old friends, gained new ones, and
realized what a great community we
have.
It wasn’t all roses as we
struggled through companies’ as well as
individual budget woes, not to mention
the postponements due to Manny Pacquiao
and Rosing. But with prayer and various
people rallying behind us at the most
unexpected times, everything fell into
place. This experience surely
reinforced our belief in the innate
goodness of people in general. Most
gave what little time, effort and money
they had for a show of support. Some
were cajoled (or even bribed!) to buy
tickets but all in good spirit. What
unified this community is a very noble
cause after all: the MC Endowment Fund
for scholarships, faculty development
and the Marian Auditorium.
When you have a great
cause, hardworking people, and kind
souls, no project is too little or too
big to get the success it deserves.
With God’s grace, Bingo Bongga 2!
enjoyed a very good turnout once again,
and we couldn’t have been more honored
to be part of this event. Thanks to all
donors and sponsors. Thanks to our
families. Thanks to all batchmates,
alumni, students, faculty and personnel
of Miriam College who helped in
different ways. Thanks for making us
understand once again what community and
school spirit is all about, and that it
is thriving in our alma mater still!

AMAZING ALUMNI ACHIEVER
MA. CELESTE T. GONZALEZ
COLL ‘75
She was blessed with
foreign education and training and very
impressive credentials. Nevertheless,
Celeste has shunned the more glamorous
and high-paying career abroad and chose
to return home. She embarked on a less
lucrative but more heroic journey of
teaching and educating students in her
own country. Her work has been
recognized both locally and
internationally as she was a recipient
of, among others, the PEO International
Peace Scholarship award. She is
presently the Chairperson of the
Education Department and Director of the
Ateneo Teacher Center, School of Social
Sciences, Ateneo de Manila University.
She has remained selfless with solid
piety and heroic generosity, tirelessly
pursuing her commitment to enhance
students’ lives.
