ARE YOU READY TO HAVE LOTSA FUN? 

With almost two months to go before Homecoming Day, Maryknoll College High School Class of 1982 met with representatives of the other celebrating jubilee classes for 2007 for a 2nd Jubilee class representatives’ meeting last June 23, 2007. Reminders of deadlines, production plan/concept and the different activities for the homecoming were discussed. Alumni will be treated to a fun-filled Grand Alumni Homecoming on Saturday, September 8, 2007. As this year’s theme is GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN! There will be a Jubilee Class Cabana Decorating Contest, a lifestyle bazaar at the College Gym, kids play area at the College Multi-purpose Hall, food stalls and exhibits for everyone to enjoy.

 
 

Registration starts at 1:00 P.M. till 6:00 P.M. at the College Library Foyer. All attendees MUST REGISTER! Only alumni will pay the P200 entrance fee. Their guests and family members are free (but they must be registered too!) Each registered alumni gets a chance to win great raffle prizes. Alumni who will pre-register by August 31, 2007 gets an early-bird discounted rate of P150.00! An anticipated mass sponsored by Grade School 1982, will start at 4:30 P.M. at the College Chapel. The much-awaited Jubilee Class Homecoming program starts at 6:00 P.M. at the Marian Auditorium followed by a dance party and raffle draw of exciting prizes from 8:00pm to 12:00 midnight at the College Cafeteria leading to an open-air tent which will be installed right beside the college gym area.

MCHS CLASS OF 2006 YEARBOOK & RUMMAGE SALE

Calling all members of Miriam College High School Class of 2006 (MCHS 2006) your Magnificat 2006 is ready and will be distributed on June 29-30, 2007 at the High School APSA foyer. Come and get your copy!

Also, on Saturday, July 30, 2007 MCHS 2006 will have a RUMMAGE SALE beside the ESI Building, Miriam College. All alumni are invited to come and support this endeavor as proceeds of this sale will benefit the Magnificat Scholarship Endowed Fund. This scholarship fund was established by both parents and graduates of MCHS 2006 to support the studies of a batchmate throughout her 4 collegiate years in Miriam. MCHS 2006 earns the distinction of being the youngest batch to establish an Endowed Scholarship Fund to date.

 

SEARCH FOR 2007 MMCAA BOARD

We would like to reiterate that the search is on for candidates who are capable and willing to serve on the 2008 MMCAA Board of Trustees.

There will be five (5) seats from the Board that will have to be filled during the elections come September 8, 2007 (Homecoming Day - - the MMCAA General Assembly). As per the amended By-Laws of the MMCAA (2003), each member of the Board shall hold office for a period of two (2) consecutive years. A member of the Board who has served two consecutive terms (or a total of 4 years) may be elected anew for another term only after the lapse of one term. We encourage representatives of forthcoming celebrating jubilee classes to sit in the Board.

Interested alumni are requested to submit  the following to the MMCAA Office on or before July 30, 2007.

1.    Letter of intent to serve the Board

2.    One (1) 2x2 recent photo; and, an

3.    Updated bio-data

All nominations will be processed and received by the MMCAA Search Committee in accordance with the guidelines it has formulated for this purpose. The members of the Search Committee this year are: Atty. Remedios Montecastro-Lim, Rowena Belmonte-Caingat, Maria Paz Moreno-Vicente, Marinette Yan-Aglipay and Ma. Paz Fabella

1)    CLASS CABANA DECORATING CONTEST

Only nine (9) cabanas are up for grabs for the jubilee classes to decorate. Have an exclusive meeting place for your class this homecoming and get a chance to win some wonderful prizes. Reserve your cabana now thru the MMCAA Office. Guidelines and mechanics of the decorating contest will be released on July 8, 2007.

2)    CLASS PRESENTATION

·         It’s a GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN Homecoming this September 8, 2007. Jubilee Classes participating is the Homecoming program are given until July 8, 2007 to submit and reserve their production number concept and their “fun female icon” of choice for their 7-minutes presentation. ·         Audio-visual presentation (AVP) to be used during the homecoming program should be submitted to MCHS 1982 thru the MMCAA Office on or before August 8, 2007. AVPs should be in broadcast quality wide screen format.

 

WHAT’S NEW @ MC 

  • Growth, Upgrading and Resource Office (GURO): Miriam College Teacher Institute

 The Growth, Upgrading and Resource Office (GURO) was created to serve as a teacher training center offering professional development programs to the Miriam College faculty and to external groups and individuals.   It will bring the resources of Miriam College to the service of public and private schools as well as local governments and low income partner communities as part of the institution’s response to the needs of Philippine education.

 GURO will be headed by Dr. Evelina M. Vicencio, Executive Director, and Ms. Ma. Jamelia F. Villanueva, Associate Director.

 

AMAZING ALUMNI ACHIEVER

SR. CARMELA CECILIA CARPIO, MM +             AB ‘53            (Posthumous)

Beloved high school teacher to many Maryknollers.  A Maryknoll sister for 36 years.  Served in leadership roles in education, in the advocacy for peace and justice, in Mission formation for the religious.  The first Filipino elected as Regional Coordinator of the Maryknoll Sisters in the Philippines.  Former Chairperson of the Maryknoll College Board of Trustee.  Pioneer member of the Baguio-based Center for Integrity of Creation and the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary.

 

IN MEMORIAM

 ·       Our heartfelt sympathies to the family of MR. LEO YAN who died last June 26, 2007. Leo is the brother of MMCAA Board Trustee Marinette Yan-Aglipay (COLL ‘74) and son to Ambassador Manuel Yan.

·       We extend our sincere condolences to Dr. Lourdes R. Quisumbing, Chairperson of the Miriam College Board of Trustees and to Dr. Maria Lourdes Q. Baybay, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences on the demise of their beloved MR. JOSE MARIA “Pepito” REYNES QUISUMBING last June 17, 2007 in Cebu City. Pepito is the eldest son of Dr. Lourdes and Mr. Carlos Emilio Quisumbing.

·       Our condolences to Ms. Lynda Catindig-Garcia (COLL ‘86), Chairperson, Communication Arts Department of Miriam College whose father, MR. ROBERTO CATINDIG passed away last June 10, 2007 at the age of 63. 

·       In your prayers please remember MRS. LOURDES “Lulu” Santos CAPARAS (HS ’65, COLL ‘69) who died last last May 28,2007. Lulu is the sister of Cynthia Santos (HS ‘66) and wife of Asst. Sec. DY Caparas of the Department of Foreign Affairs. 

·       We also extend our sympathies to Ma. Antonia “Maritoni” Campa-Ortigas (GS ‘59, HS ‘63, COLL ‘67) on the death her husband ANTONIO “Tony” ORTIGAS last June 20, 2007. Please remember them in your prayers.
