The Miriam Volunteer Mission (MVM) Program is the volunteer service program of Miriam College for its alumni. This program is implemented by the Institutional Network for Social Action (INSA) Office of Miriam College. Volunteers are deployed to resource-poor areas for a period of six to ten moths. Volunteer service starts in June every year.

Last year, two volunteers were deployed in Davao. Hyacinth Merioles (AB International Studies 2004) worked as a community organizer at the Philippine Agency for Family and Community (PACAF) – Mindanao Chapter. The other, Quennie Plopinio (AB International Studies 2004) is still with the Our Lady of Victory Training Center at Samal. She takes care of the academic needs of her handicap students living at the Center. The two partner agencies are both handled by the Maryknoll Sisters.

This year, we also have two volunteers deployed in the same areas. Joanna Marie Oliva (BS Entrepreneurship ‘05) is assigned in the Our Lady of Victory Training Center, while Rhaye Anne Munsayac (AB International Studies ’05) is assigned in PACAF – Mindanao Chapter.

For the succeeding years, we will need more partner agencies since we are targeting at least ten (10) volunteers. Preference will be given to institutions:

  1. whose advocacies are in line with the core values of Miriam College – Truth, Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation;
  2. that are located in far south/north Luzon, in Visayas and in Mindanao; and
  3. that can shoulder the board and lodging of the volunteers as well as their monthly allowance.

In order for the MVM Program to continue, INSA will really need more support from the alumni. Here are some of our proposals:

  1. VOLUNTEER!

  2. The MVM Program was initially made for the new graduates of Miriam College. Next school year we are extending it to all alumni of Miriam College. As they say, volunteerism is not age-bound. One is called to serve any time of their lives. There might be alumni who are interested to volunteer. Deadline for application is every February. The volunteer can commit for at least six months to a year or service. MVM Service Year starts in May.

  3. ADOPT A VOLUNTEER!

    1. You can sponsor a volunteer or two for a year. You can sponsor either the volunteers’ two-way airfare (to and from their mission area) or their monthly allowance (on the average, PhP 3,000.00 per volunteer per month). Or you can sponsor both the airfare and the allowance.
    2. Alumni who are active in NGO work in Visayas or Mindanao might want to adopt an MVM Volunteer and be its host agency. The NGO can be INSA’s partner agency that will shoulder at least the monthly allowance of the volunteer.

  4. DONATE TO THE MVM FUND!

  5. You can donate any amount to the MVM Fund. Better yet, make MVM a beneficiary of any of your fundraising activities.

  6. SPREAD THE WORD!

  7. You can help us promote MVM through forwarding this site or referring an alumni to INSA office.
